Many cultivars exist. This selection, 'Jeana', was found in the wild in Tennessee by Jeana Prewitt. Individual flowers are smaller than usual but they are produced in large numbers. In trials, 'Jeana' stood out among other phlox selections in Mt. Cuba Center's cultivar trials for its resistance to powdery mildew disease and because it was the best for attracting butterflies. This is a fine garden plant for formal and informal settings. The flowers are visited by hummingbirds, butterflies, bees and other insect pollinators. It is considered somewhat resistant to deer.

The image comes from the Mt.
