This deciduous, twining woody vine has fragrant, showy, pea-like flowers in dense, drooping racemes to 6” long. Usually, the vines produce flowers by the second or third year after planting. Grow this vigorous woody vine on a large tree or other sturdy support. Prune as needed after flowering. Stems will root as they grow along the ground. Remove these stems if you wish to prevent excessive spread. The flowers attract butterflies and other insect pollinators. A few skipper butterfly caterpillars feed on this plant. It is resistant to deer damage.
