This clump-forming, upright, ornamental grass is distinguished upright, leafy stalks and elegantly drooping seed heads. The seed stalks are excellent for dried flower arrangements. It is an easy plant for the garden. If the mature seed heads are not removed, this plant will spread by seed. Fortunately, unwanted seedlings can be pulled easily. This plant can serve as a single specimen, a border or a tall. erosion-resistant groundcover. This grass serves as a host for caterpillars of the northern pearly-eye butterfly and various skippers. Birds eat the seeds. Deer tend to leave grasses alone.
