This little evergreen wildflower is found naturally in dry woods.  The white midrib stripe on the dark green leaf is an identifying characteristic. It spreads slowly by short rhizomes and seeds. This plant grows well in acidic clay to sandy soils. Flowers appear in small nodding clusters and are reported to be fragrant. Because of its small size, it may be best suited for a spot without competition in a shady natural garden, a rock garden or a container. Reportedly, it is pollinated by bumblebees. Deer tend to ignore it.
