This native evergreen plant looks similar to the desert century plants but its leaves are soft and lack the lethal terminal spine of many other Agave species. Greenish tubular flowers are produced at the top of a tall spike. It is one of a small number of Agave species which have rosettes that can bloom multiple times during its lifespan. A single plant will slowly multiply to form a clump of rosettes. It can be used as an accent in a formal garden, naturalized in a well-drained site and it makes a nice container specimen. Bees during the day and various moths at night are the primary pollinators but hummingbirds are reported to visit the plant, too. Deer will browse on the soft leaves.
