Baptisia albescens - spiked false indigo
Height: 4’+
Spread: 2’ to 3’
Light Needs: full sun to part shade
Water: dry to medium
Flower color: white
Bloom time: May to June
This clumping wildflower is well-adapted to garden conditions. It grows full sun to part shade and tolerates drought and poor soils. It is similar to Baptisia alba but is taller, flowers a little later and has narrower seed pods. Like B. alba, this plant is suitable for a formal garden or a natural setting. The white flower spikes are attractive in an open woodland or on a woodland edge. The flowers are pollinated by bees. They are deer resistant.
Baptisia species produce seeds easily and cross breed readily. If you want to produce seeds of a straight species, do not plant more than one species within bee-flying distance.
