Light Needs: part sun to shade
Water: average to moist
Flower color: orange, red or red-and-yellow
Bloom time: early spring
This evergreen, woody vine climbs by using tendrils that grasp tree trunks and other rough surfaces. It grows well in shade but will climb into sunlight. Flower production is better in full sun. Usually, its large yellow to red flowers appear as hummingbirds migrate back into our region. Butterflies and other insect pollinators visit the flowers, also. Stems that grow along the ground will root into the ground. Control those stems to control the plant's spread. The evergreen foliage and aerial tangles of stems provide protection for wildlife. Deer browse on leaves and twigs within reach.
These plants are locally collected and have yellow flowers with red throats.
