This semi-evergreen to evergreen sedge has distinctive, wide, blue-green leaves. The flower spikes are interesting but not showy. It develops into a compact clump and spreads slowly by seeds. If it were more readily available, it could easily replace exotic liriope as an edging plant or groundcover in shady gardens throughout the south. It serves as a host for satyr butterfly caterpillars. Deer tend to leave sedges alone.
