Coleataenia anceps - beaked panic grass

This is a native, perennial, warm-season grass that spreads by rhizomes. Open clusters of small greenish flowers stand above the foliage in summer. They tend to be upright but may lean. Because of its spread, it is suitable for erosion control and may be best in a naturalistic situation. Various skipper butterfly caterpillars may use it as a host plant. Birds will eat the seeds. Several references state that deer will browse on this grass.
