This subspecies of this tickseed is found in the southern Appalachians, including the upstate of the Carolinas. It grows in a slowly spreading clump on rocky slopes and outcrops. Leaves and stems are fuzzy. The yellow daisies can be three inches across. It is suitable for a formal garden but the tall stems may flop. The flowers attract butterflies and other insect pollinators. It is reported to be resistant to deer damage.
