This wildflower has dense clusters of tubular flowers at the tops of its stems. It spreads by rhizomes and develops into dense colonies of upright stems. The opposite leaves are aromatic. In a formal garden, its spread will require periodic control. It is excellent for naturalizing. The showy flowers attract hummingbirds, butterflies and other insect pollinators. This plant is tolerant of black walnut and is attractive to bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. It is resistant to deer damage.
