This is a beautiful native flowering tree that is challenging to propagate and, for that reason, is uncommon in the nursery trade. Compared to Halesia tetraptera (common silverbell), this species tends to be smaller and multi-stemmed. Bell-shaped flowers hang from the branches as the new leaves emerge in spring. It is an outstanding small tree for a garden or a woodland setting. The flowers attract bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators. Two-winged fruits follow the flowers and persist into the winter. It is reported to be host for caterpillars of the tiger swallowtail, viceroy butterfly and promethea moth.
