This tall wildflower produces stalks in a tight clump instead of spreading by rhizomes like some of its relatives. The leafy stalks are rough to the touch and purplish in color. Branches at the top of the stalks produce large numbers of 2 to 3" wide yellow daisies. It is identified, in part, by its very narrow leaves with edges that curl under. This plant is appropriate for the back of the border in a formal garden or in a natural setting. The daisies attract a wide variety of insect pollinators. Birds eat the seeds. Dead, hollow stalks provide habitat for a wide variety of insects. Deer and rabbits may eat young plants.
