This tall wildflower spreads slowly to form a fairly tight colony. It does not spread quickly and far like some of its relatives. Its leaves are rough to the touch. Clusters of one inch or larger daisies are produced at the tops of the upright stalks. It is suitable for a formal garden to a naturalistic site and is ideal for a pollinator garden. The daisies attract a wide variety of insect pollinators. It is reported that caterpillars of painted lady and spring azure butterflies feed on its leaves. Birds eat the seeds. Dead, hollow stalks provide habitat for a wide variety of insects. Deer and rabbits may eat young plants.
