Light Needs: full sun
Water: average to moist
Flower color: pink, rarely white
Bloom time: July, August
This wildflower produces tight clumps of upright stems topped by attractive clusters of flowers. Seed pods split open to release seeds that float on the wind. It is suitable for a formal garden that is not too dry and for naturalizing. In average soil, it will benefit from extra water during dry spells. It will naturalize with volunteer seedlings in a moist site. Milkweeds are important as food sources for monarch butterfly caterpillars. Butterflies and other insect pollinators visit the flowers. Various bugs, beetles, moths and other insects feed on the leaves and sap. Like most milkweeds, it is deer resistant.
