This is a robust, clumping wildflower that makes a strong accent in a garden. The white to pink flowers are five inches wide and showy. It is suitable as a bold accent in a formal flower or shrub border. It will naturalize by seed in a moist site. Flowers are pollinated by bees, hummingbirds and butterflies. Several butterfly and moth larvae are reported to feed on this plant including the gray hairstreak, the io moth and several other moth species. It is reported that deer may browse on tender young growth. This hibiscus species is uncommon in the nursery trade but it is worthy of use in gardens. It may be listed as Hibiscus militaris in catalogs.
