This medium-sized, clumping wildflower produces spikes of numerous small white daisies. The shield-shaped leaves add a bold texture to the garden. It begins flowering earlier than most of our native asters. It is suitable for a formal shady garden, the front of a shady border or for naturalizing. Volunteer seedlings may appear but they are easy to pull. Alternatively, old flowers can be removed before the seeds mature. The flowers attract bees, butterflies and other insect pollinators. Seeds are eaten by birds. Deer may browse this plant.
