This is a big wildflower with upright, branched stalks that are covered with colorful daisies in fall. Garden cultivars may have white or pink flowers. In the garden, it may require staking or pinching before mid-summer to control the eventual height. The flowers are attractive to butterflies and other insect pollinators. Caterpillars of the pearl crescent butterfly use this plant as a host. Many references state that it is deer resistant but young plants need protection.
