This wildflower is native to South Carolina's coastal plain. However, it is a reliable perennial that has been popular in upstate gardens for generations. The leaves are evergreen most winters and form a compact mound. The colorful daisies stand above the foliage. Planting in part shade will reduce drought stress. Supplemental water may be needed during extended dry spells. This plant is excellent for a formal garden and for naturalizing. The flowers attract butterflies and other insect pollinators. Deer and rabbits leave the foliage alone but deer may eat the developing flower buds.
