This wildflower is rare and being considered for federal protection. It is an exceptional native aster with large daisies for its comparatively small size. The daisies are two to nearly three inches wide. It spreads at a moderate rate by rhizomes and has a bushy habit. This is a colorful addition to the garden and is much more manageable than the taller native asters. It will require periodic control in a formal garden. It is excellent in a natural setting. Butterflies, bumble bees and other insect pollinators will visit the flowers. Birds eat the seeds. Protect this plant if you have hungry deer in your neighborhood.
