This is a twining herbaceous perennial that dies back to the ground each winter. The long stems climb and drape over surrounding vegetation or another support - such as a fence or trellis. In late summer and fall, it is covered with clusters of white flowers that resemble  those of boneset (Eupatorium sp.). It is a vigorous grower that is better suited for a natural area than a small or tidy garden. The flowers attract bees, butterflies and other insect pollinators. The seeds are eaten by birds. It is reported that deer are attracted to it.
