At a glance, this little wildflower looks like a grass. With a closer look, it is very similar to its close relatives the irises. Slender, branching stems hold blue flowers above the fan of leaves. It forms dense clumps and can produce volunteer seedlings. It is suitable for the front of a formal garden border or it can be added to a natural area. Bees, small butterflies and other insect pollinators visit the flowers. The plants seem to be deer resistant but they may browse the developing flower buds.
