This is a shrubby plant with a dense, bushy habit. Dark green foliage provides a perfect backdrop for the bright yellow flowers. This plant can spread slowly by root suckers but these are easily removed. In the garden, it can be used as an accent plant, as a low hedge or mixed into a border with perennials and flowering shrubs. Bees and flower flies are the primary pollinators but other insects visit the flowers. The caterpillars of gray hairstreak butterfly and several moths use this plant as a host. Birds and other small animals eat the seeds. It is resistant to deer and rabbit damage.
