This wildflower grows naturally in moist sites but it will tolerate drier garden conditions with a little extra water during droughts. Sturdy, upright stems tend to grow in tight clumps. The leaves have a distinctive camphor smell if brushed or crushed. Large flower clusters are produced at the tops of the stems. Some references state that this plant is an annual but the sale plants are divisions of a plant that grows as a perennial in the garden of an SCNPS member. It is suitable for a reasonably moist formal garden or a naturalistic setting. The flowers attract a wide assortment of insect pollinators. It is resistant to deer damage.
