This is a well-behaved mountain mint for the garden. It has a clumping growth habit - not spreading. Its stems are upright to arching and it has showy white leaves around its flower head. Another way to distinguish it from similar species is that its lower leaves are smooth on the underside rather than fuzzy. In nature, it grows in well-drained rocky sites. It is suitable for a formal garden or for naturalizing. Garden plants tolerate clay soils provided the drainage is good. The mountain mints are outstanding at attracting a wide assortment of insect pollinators. Deer and rabbits leave them alone.
