Compared to other mountain mints, this species has an upright habit and showy white leaves around the flower heads. Its leaves have very short leaf stalks or lack them. This plant was selected the 2025 Perennial Plant Association's Plant of the Year. It can spread rapidly by rhizomes, somewhat like scarlet beebalm. It is beautiful but give it some room to spread or plant it in a large container to control its spread. The mountain mints are outstanding at attracting insect pollinators. They are resistant to damage by deer and rabbits.
