This wildflower is tall and clumping with mostly upright stems. References suggest cutting the stems back in late spring to encourage branching and avoid overly tall, floppy stems in late summer. Blue flowers are produced on spikes at the tops of the branches. In good situations, plants will bloom repeatedly from summer into fall. It is suitable for an variety of gardens, from a formal garden to a natural setting. Hummingbirds, butterflies, bees and other insect pollinators visit the flowers. It is a host plant for the hermit sphinx moth larvae. Deer tend to leave the aromatic leaves of sages alone.
