The yellow pitcher plant is naturally commonest in the coastal plains or South Carolina and is rare in the Piedmont. These sale plants are divisions from cultivated sources. The pitchers are modified leaves that trap insects. Flowers are produced on upright stems that bend over at the top like a shepherd's crook. The plants are adapted to poor, wet, acidic soils. They are suitable for wet sites in the landscape or in containers. Plant so the crown is above the water line and the roots are continually moist. Bees and other pollinators will visit the flowers. Deer will browse on the plants.
