About eleven species of pitcher plants are native to the eastern United States. These sale plants are from cultivated sources. The identities are not known and at least some appear to be hybrids. The pitchers are modified leaves that trap insects. Flowers are produced on upright stems that bend over at the top like a shepherd's crook. The plants are adapted to poor, wet, acidic soils. They are suitable for wet sites in the landscape or in containers. Plant so the crown is above the water line and the roots are continually moist. Bees and other pollinators will visit the flowers. Deer will browse on the plants.
