Little information is available about this goldenrod - especially in regards to its preferred garden conditions. In 2026, we find no nursery listings of this species. So far, it has grown easily in containers of commercial potting medium in the Upstate Native Nursery. As its common name indicates, it grows on rock outcrops in nature in a small area of Georgia and the Carolinas. It grows in a clump with plumes of yellow flowers. Like other goldenrods, the flowers attract a wide variety of bees, butterflies and other insect pollinators. 

It is worth noting that goldenrods do not cause hay fever. The lightweight, air-borne pollen grains of plants like ragweed cause hay fever. Goldenrod pollen is comparative heavy and sticky. It is moved from flower to flower by insects.
