This native aster has upright, leafy stems topped by leafy spikes of white daisies that are nearly one inch wide. The center disc flowers are yellow at first and turn reddish with age. It tends to be a bushy plant instead of spreading but it can spread by seeds. It may not be showy enough for a formal garden but it behaves well enough for most garden situations. The late season flowers are attractive to a wide assortment of insect pollinators. It supports the caterpillars of the pearl crescent. It is reported to be moderately deer resistant with tender young shoots at the greatest risk.
