This elegant wildflower produces mounds of deeply dissected foliage. Fragrant white flowers are produced on tall spikes in summer. The fruits are dry capsules. A plant or small group can make a striking accent in a formal garden or it can be naturalized in a woodland. It is a host plant for caterpillars of the spring azure butterfly. Butterflies, bees and other insect pollinators visit the flowers. It is deer resistant.
