This evergreen sedge thrives in average garden soils. Although some websites describe it as a small sedge, it develops into a substantial clump of fine-textured, deep green leaves in South Carolina. It is an adaptable, easy plant in the garden. Plant one as a specimen plant, use several together as a tall groundcover or plant a border. Deer tend to leave sedges alone.
This species is native to the coastal plain of South Carolina. Some botanists have expressed concern that it may spread by seed into natural areas of the Piedmont and mountains.
