This is a medium-sized, multi-stemmed shrub with large, showy clusters of flowers. In a good site, it can spread slowly by suckers. In the garden, this plant can be an accent, part of a mixed hedge or it can be naturalized in the woodland. Mulch this plant to keep its roots cool and moist. It may require some extra water during droughts. The flowers attracts butterflies, moths and other insect pollinators. It is a host for the caterpillars of the hydrangea sphinx moth. Deer will browse this plant.
